High wattage good looks

If you think your home is ready for the holidays, think again. Your season won't be complete until you add this handsome young dog to your family. There's no better way to impress your neighbors than by parading Petey down the street. He's only a year old, but his studly good looks are already operating at full wattage. And he's much smarter than any of Santa's elves. At 55 pounds, he's way too big to be a lap dog, but you'll want to get as many kisses as you can from this gorgeous boy. Petey is ready to make your Christmas complete. He's your Adoptable Pet for the week of December 16, 2013.

A Christmas Eve poem from your Rockwall pets

Hello there, handsome!

Mickey's smiling face is guaranteed to light up any Christmas scene. This happy boy is friendly, playful and unbelievably sweet. Since he's only nine months old, he's still learning the ropes. He's nearly fully grown now, so you can already tell what a wonderful adult dog he's going to be. One look at that handsome face will tell you that Mickey is ready to be the star of your show. He's your Rockwall Adoptable Pet for the week of December 24, 2012.

Christmas cuteness alert!

Have you been good this year? Extra special good? Then Santa may bring you an adorable pet like Snoopy. He's only two months old and as sweet as can be. He's a little terrier mix who's ready to curl up with you in front of the yuletide fire. Snoopy is going to grow up to be a playful and happy member of your family. And that's the best gift of all. Snoopy is your Rockwall Adoptable Pet for the week of December 17, 2012.

Adopt a Christmas puppy

It's Adopt a Christmas Puppy Week! Brody is incredibly laid back and quiet for a little three-month-old puppy. He's a little shy, but he quickly gets over his nervousness when you pick him up and cuddle him. You can always tell what he's thinking, because Brody's soulful eyes and floppy ears are so expressive. He's going to grow up to be a wonderful family companion! Brody is your Rockwall Adoptable Pet for the week of December 3, 2012.

A long thank you

We hope you'll indulge us in a long Christmas thank you. First of all, thanks to all of you who've adopted a Rockwall shelter pet. We wouldn't be here without you. Thank you to Dr. Keith Webb and everyone at Pet Doctor. They believe in our mission and have saved the lives of so many pets this year.

Thank you to our adoption and transfer partners, like the Animal Hospital of Fate, Pappy's Pet Lodge/Red Wolf Resort, the Rockwall Petco, the Firewheel Petco in Garland, the Town East Petco in Mesquite, Gina King and everyone at Ponderosa Pet Resort, Ridge Road Animal Hospital and Stonebridge Veterinary Hospital. We fully understand our shelter is often difficult to work with, so we ask your patience in sticking with us.

Thank you to the incredible fosters and volunteers who've saved a record number of lives this year. Once again, we know it's hard to deal with the shelter sometimes, but we thank you, love you and send you our deepest appreciation.

For Mayor David Sweet and the Rockwall City Council, we have nothing but respect and gratitude. You remain one of only two city councils in Texas to vote for saving lives. Thank you to everyone who has donated so generously to save the lives of ill and injured pets. Thank you to Juan Hernandez for being a friend to volunteers, customers and pets alike, and for all you've done to make No Kill Rockwall a reality.

And thank you to the Rockwall shelter pets. We know we're not perfect, but all of us are working so hard to find you the loving home you so richly deserve. Merry Christmas to all of you.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you for making this the happiest holiday season ever for your Rockwall shelter pets!

Hamilton has been a good boy this year, Santa

Since it's Christmas week, we're spotlighting our special pets who need extra-special homes for the holidays. Hamilton is an incredibly patient and gentle mastiff mix who's about five or six years old. Even though he's completely blind, he lives life to the fullest. He's fully house- and crate-trained, gentle and loving. He'd even be a perfect companion for those long walks around the neighborhood. As part of our Free for the Holidays campaign, Hamilton's adoption fee has been waived. He's your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for Christmas Week 2011.

Christmas Eve

All the stockings were hung by the kennels with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

Bailey waits for Santa

Bailey didn't get her Christmas wish - a new home - so she's already getting ready for Santa's visit tonight. Santa has already told her what a good girl she's been this year, so Bailey's hoping Santa makes her dreams come true very soon.

It's Christmas Eve!

Joyce Ross and the entire Rockwall Animal Services team wish you a very merry Christmas. As a reminder, the shelter - and Find-a-Friend Fridays at the Rockwall Petco - are closed today for the holiday weekend. A special shout-out goes to Juan Hernandez, who's working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to take care of the shelter pets.

Clyde is ready for the holidays

Does Clyde look familiar? He and his sister Bonnie walked alongside the Rockwall Animal Services float during the Christmas parade. Bonnie was adopted two weeks ago, leaving Clyde alone at the Rockwall Animal Adoption Center. Since he's friendly, handsome and intelligent, you simply won't find a more perfect holiday companion. He's your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of December 20, 2010.

Give a gift of love this holiday season

Rockwall Petco employee Kayla Canavier (center) joins Rockwall animal shelter volunteers Pam Kitkoski (with Jake) and Barbara Seed (holding Sandy) to celebrate the ongoing success of the Tree of Hope. Petco shoppers have been making holiday donations to the Rockwall Animal Adoption Center through the Tree of Hope program. The Rockwall Petco has already raised nearly half of its $4000 goal.
