A long thank you
We hope you'll indulge us in a long Christmas thank you. First of all, thanks to all of you who've adopted a Rockwall shelter pet. We wouldn't be here without you. Thank you to Dr. Keith Webb and everyone at Pet Doctor. They believe in our mission and have saved the lives of so many pets this year.
Thank you to our adoption and transfer partners, like the Animal Hospital of Fate, Pappy's Pet Lodge/Red Wolf Resort, the Rockwall Petco, the Firewheel Petco in Garland, the Town East Petco in Mesquite, Gina King and everyone at Ponderosa Pet Resort, Ridge Road Animal Hospital and Stonebridge Veterinary Hospital. We fully understand our shelter is often difficult to work with, so we ask your patience in sticking with us.
Thank you to the incredible fosters and volunteers who've saved a record number of lives this year. Once again, we know it's hard to deal with the shelter sometimes, but we thank you, love you and send you our deepest appreciation.
For Mayor David Sweet and the Rockwall City Council, we have nothing but respect and gratitude. You remain one of only two city councils in Texas to vote for saving lives. Thank you to everyone who has donated so generously to save the lives of ill and injured pets. Thank you to Juan Hernandez for being a friend to volunteers, customers and pets alike, and for all you've done to make No Kill Rockwall a reality.
And thank you to the Rockwall shelter pets. We know we're not perfect, but all of us are working so hard to find you the loving home you so richly deserve. Merry Christmas to all of you.

Hamilton has been a good boy this year, Santa
Since it's Christmas week, we're spotlighting our special pets who need extra-special homes for the holidays. Hamilton is an incredibly patient and gentle mastiff mix who's about five or six years old. Even though he's completely blind, he lives life to the fullest. He's fully house- and crate-trained, gentle and loving. He'd even be a perfect companion for those long walks around the neighborhood. As part of our Free for the Holidays campaign, Hamilton's adoption fee has been waived. He's your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for Christmas Week 2011.

Adopt your own TV star
Yes, he's handsome. Winston's intelligent too. He's such a great dog that he was recently featured on The CW33 News. But he's the first to admit that he's not Mr. Perfect. He hates cats. He's picky about which dogs he gets along with. And he's very strong-willed. But if you're the type who's a good pack leader, you won't find a better exercise partner - or good looking companion - than Winston. He's your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of December 5, 2011.

A beautiful hybrid
This young lady is a true hybrid. Lisa has some lab genes in her makeup, but what else? Boxer? Basset hound? It really doesn't matter what she's made of, because all the parts fit together beautifully to make a playful and intelligent dog. With a little obedience training, Lisa is going to grow up to be the perfect exercise companion. She's your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of November 28, 2011.

Ready for a taste of sweetness?
Cookie likes to spend her time doing a lot of exploring. But when she's done, she's ready to snuggle up for lots of loving. It's all in a day's work for this busy little dog. She finds something to keep her occupied, so she can relax with you after she's tired herself out. Cookie, along with Cinnamon and Oreo, is part of our Dessert Collection. She's also your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of November 14, 2011.

Nola won't be any trouble
Nola is beautiful, but her best years are admittedly behind her. Someone let her out to wander off to die. But she wants to live. She sleeps a lot, and she's dirty and riddled with arthritis, but that doesn't stop her from being happy. She's very loving and wants someone to love her in return. Nola needs a quiet place to lay her head, and she needs to feel a warm, caring touch. She won't be any trouble. Do you have space in your heart to let her live the rest of her days with love and dignity? Nola is your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of October 31, 2011.

That face!
It really doesn't matter if Aspen is a little timid around humans. Because who can resist that adorable face? This Shar Pei mix has obviously never experienced a loving touch, so she tends to be scared around people she doesn't know. But she's quickly growing addicted to receiving all the attention she deserves. Aspen is an intelligent, sweet and very beautiful young lady. She's your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of October 24, 2011.

What a classy lady!
We know it's not polite to talk about a lady's age, but Marilyn doesn't mind. She may be advanced in years, but she's also very advanced in cuteness. She's tiny: just the perfect size to be held and cuddled for hours. She's calm, friendly and lovable. You can put Marilyn's experience to work for you by letting her fill your home with love. She's your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of October 17, 2011.

Sam is a lover
What a find! Sam is an incredibly sweet and intelligent dog. He may be a little timid at first, but his tail starts wagging immediately once he feels your loving touch. If you live a more relaxed lifestyle, Sam will be right there with you. But he wouldn't turn down a trip to the Rockwall Dog Park either!
He's a loving and handsome young dog. Sam is your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of October 10, 2011.

Is Jackson "Less Than Adoptable?"
Jackson is asking, "Why am I here?" Petfinder has declared this "Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable Pet Week." But there's really nothing wrong with Jackson that would make him less adoptable. Sure, he's a strong, energetic dog that needs some obedience training. And he might not get along well with certain dogs. Otherwise, he's handsome, intelligent and very friendly. Jackson is your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of September 19, 2011.

A very special pair
Bo and Luke have had an eventful summer. They were found in Royse City in July. It looks like Bo had been run over, and Luke had been shot through one of his rear legs with a .22 caliber bullet. Both of them are now fully healed and ready to go home with you. They're both friendly, intelligent and already trained to sit. This very special pair are your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pets for the week of September 5, 2011.
Bo and Luke will also be part of our Adopt-A-Bull adoption event with Dog Star Pit Bull Rescue. The event is this Saturday, September 10, from 9am-2pm at Ponderosa Pet Resort in Royse City.

Looking for an angel
This little girl is counting on all of us to be angels. Along with two additional dogs at the shelter, Angel is heartworm positive. We're trying to raise $750 in a week - by Saturday September 3 - so we can return all of them to health. Once this adorable chihuahua-mix is rid of those nasty heartworms, she'll obviously find a loving home right away. Please donate to help Angel and her two shelter mates. That's what a No Kill Rockwall is all about. Angel is your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the Week of August 29, 2011.

A happy-go-lucky, street-smart dog
This big guy is a gentle giant. Toby is about five years old, very mellow and exceedingly friendly. If you're a yellow lab fan, you know what to expect: a happy-go-lucky attitude combined with street-smarts. Toby is part of the "Summer of Love: 60s Power!" promotion sponsored by Rockwall Pets. That means his adoption fee has been reduced to only $25. Toby is your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of August 22, 2011.

Rockwall City Council votes to saves lives
The Rockwall City Council voted unanimously Monday night to make Rockwall a No Kill community. It’s the culmination of a volunteer-driven campaign by Rockwall Pets, an independent nonprofit, to stop the killing of healthy and adoptable animals at the city shelter. Pegasus News has the story.
(Pictured: Maverick was killed earlier this year for minor - and very correctable - behavioral issues. The Rockwall City Council has mandated that dogs like Maverick no longer pay the ultimate price.)

When Amy cuddles next to you on the sofa, your troubles will melt away. Meet this loving kitty at our adoption partner Ridge Road Animal Hospital. Amy is your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of August 15, 2011.

A hybrid that saves you green
This young girl has it all! Laila is a true hybrid since she's part lab, part basenji and part everything else. She's cute, friendly and fun, plus she's slightly sassy, which makes her a true Texan. She also has 60s Power! That means her adoption fee has been reduced to $25. Laila is ready to charm her way into your heart. She's your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of August 8, 2011.

We've got a groovy thing going!
We've got a groovy thing going during the month of August! It's the "Summer of Love: 60s Power!" at the Rockwall Animal Adoption Center.
All dogs and cats who have been at the Rockwall shelter for 60 days or longer have had their adoption fees reduced by $60. That means dogs are $25 and cats are free! Far out!
Just look for the peace sign on the kennel - or let your karma lead the way - to find which pets have 60s Power! And some of the pets will be at various off-site adoption events throughout the month.
We're going to have a gas while saving you some bread, dig?
Check it out at rockwallpets.com.
The best things come in twos
These sisters are living proof that the best things come in twos. Star and Sky are small hybrids - they're lab mixed with chihuahua and pug and whatever else - and they're well-behaved, docile and loving for their size and age. They're only about a year old, but these two little girls have already learned how to turn on the charm. Double your fun by meeting these two delightful sisters today! They're your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pets for the week of August 1, 2011.

Hello Dolly!
We're making huge progress toward becoming a No Kill Community thanks to our adoption partners and foster families. Cats and dogs who would have been killed for space reasons in years past are now safely in the hands of volunteers. Dolly is one of those. She weighs only five pounds, but she's a heavyweight in the beauty department. She's very soft, but she's also very shy. A little patience will bring her out of her shell. She's available for adoption at one of our great adoption partners: Ridge Road Animal Hospital.

Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
How can you resist that smiling face? Chelsi is a three-year-old pomeranian mix. If you ask us, she has just the right amount of mix. She has a very sunny disposition, and she's as friendly and as sweet as can be. This little girl is waiting to brighten your life. Chelsi is your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of July 25, 2011.

Sssssshhhhhhh!
Can you keep a secret? Spot thinks he's a handsome, rugged outdoorsy type. But in reality, he's really cute. Let him think you're taking him out for a walk so he can strut down the street. You'll be holding the leash and admiring his cute face. Keep this quiet, because a great dog like Spot deserves to hang onto his ego. Spot is your Rockwall Adoptable Shelter Pet for the week of July 11, 2011.
